Did you know that Aremyhair was started in a small little room?
From the 80s till early 2000s, the hairpieces available in Singapore were extremely thick, bulky and unnatural-looking. On top of that, it was extremely uncomfortable as they were attached to users’ heads by tying the hairpiece onto existing live hairs! They were also pricey and unaffordable for most people.
It was in 2002, when Peter, who was also a user, saw an opportunity to introduce a better solution.
He found hairpieces that were lighter and more breathable. They could be attached to users simply using cosmetic tapes – a way more comfortable attachment method! These hairpieces were also much more affordable for the masses. In the confines of his room where he himself served customers, Aremyhair was born, and hair replacement systems began breaking into the scene.
Thanks to this, Singaporeans had the option to choose a natural-looking head of hair that looks good, is affordable, safe and non-invasive!
Soon, it was time to get a bigger place to accommodate the increasing number of customers. Thus, in 2003, Aremyhair based itself at 48A Tanjong Pagar Road. It was indeed a small shop business with only Peter and one other stylist!
But even then, he wanted to find better ways to serve their customers. As hair replacement systems are a long-term commitment, he believed that there had to be a sustainable programme of care in place for customers since the hairpieces were less durable and regular maintenance was needed. Thus, he created customizable yearly programmes with flexible payment plans in order to meet their needs. These programmes set an industry standard – in the years to come, many other hair replacement studios would mimic Aremyhair’s packages and compete with lower prices. However, so far, none have been able to match Aremyhair’s flexible installment plans, contract-based agreement, use of technology, CRM system, and loyalty programs.
It is Aremyhair’s culture to do honest sales. Pushing clients to make a purchase on the spot is against our nature. In fact, we encourage them to do more research on hair replacement systems and find out what others have to offer, and make a decision that is right for them. It is a long-term commitment to wear a hair system so it isn’t wise to take up a package right from the start either. We want to ensure that customers are comfortable with wearing a hair system before committing.
Aremyhair is Singapore’s first and only hair replacement centre to launch an app for both Apple and Android users, allowing customers to make appointments at the tips of their fingers and earn loyalty points for easily redeemable rewards and discounts!
In our twentieth year, we wanted to remember our humble beginnings, and reflect on the journey that has led us to be one of, if not, the best hair replacement centres in Singapore.
Since Aremyhair started, we’ve undergone so many changes. We moved from Tanjong Pagar, to Craig Road and now, to Perak Road. We faced all difficulties thrown our way. Many have come and gone (and returned!) – client and staff alike. Competitors spring up, left and right, hoping to be as successful (some competing studios have even been started by ex-staff!).
But one thing we can proudly say that we have been around for 20 years, and we will always be around to serve.
20 years on, we continue to forge ahead and spare no effort in finding new ways to innovate and give our customers the best user experiences possible.
