Beware of Paid Reviews on the Internet
Aremyhair Blog 1

When there was a recent surge of articles about hair replacements in Singapore, we were pleased that more people would get to know about alternative non-invasive hair loss solutions! After all, we thought it was a great way to raise awareness about our industry and what it can do for others.

We took the time to read through what we thought would be well-researched pieces, but soon realized these articles were more like ranking lists of hair replacement studios in Singapore.

Questionably, a lot of these lists seemed to be cobbled together using superficial and rushed research. Since Aremyhair came up in several of these lists, but we were never once officially approached by any writers, we began to wonder if these articles are at all reliable. Even people who write about food take the time to go to eat and taste the food. Did they ever even approach any of the studios to get their facts right, and get the proper experience and research for a proper comparison? With the sensitive and personal nature of hair replacement systems, this is what should have been done. How deeply did they understand hair replacements when it is such a personal and unique experience?

We even noticed a pattern – all these ranking lists placed one particular studio, which has only just recently been established, at the very top of their lists. Hair replacements are very subjective, but ALL the different writers have the same opinion that this one particular studio was good enough to be right at the top. We could say it’s a coincidence, but it does make us question the credibility of these ranking sites.

While these articles had mostly good things to say about us (even though we ranked second), we were caught off guard to also learn that one of the sites had decided to list some negatives, which we felt was unjustified.

We decided to reach out to this particular site to try to understand how they conducted their research. We patiently waited for a response, but we were ignored. In our follow-up email, we questioned them again about how their writer got his research findings. This time around, they avoided our queries and asked us to instruct them on how their write-up of us should be.

This was a totally unacceptable answer for us! They swept our concerns under the rug and then wanted us to write about ourselves, for them to copy and paste it onto their article.

This was a clear indication to us that they were fine with writing articles willy nilly! We felt these methods were not acceptable – it lacked integrity and authenticity towards readers and towards the industry as a whole. They couldn’t even be bothered to make an effort to find out what the issues were with their writings.

All these suggest that these are paid articles, which many companies pay for to get an edge over their competitors. This is to the disadvantage of readers and people who are truly looking for a balanced view.

With regards to the site that could not answer us, we made it clear to them that we would not be a part of such marketing schemes, and insisted that we be removed from their article. Thankfully, they acceded to our request.

We would like to take this opportunity to advise readers to exercise caution when it comes to articles of this sort. The writers may not always have the full picture, nor are they necessarily experts on the topic. So always do your research and shop around before you commit! Any reputable company would be more than happy to take your enquiries.
