HAIR LOSS FACTS TO HELP YOU OVERCOME THE PROBLEM
iAremyHair - Hair Loss Facts to Help You Overcome the Problem

Nowadays, people prioritize their appearances over everything else — especially their crowning glory, and there is nothing wrong with that. Their actions are not without reason, though.

Our hair helps with self-esteem and confidence levels. And no, we’re not being vain about it. When we have beautiful and healthy locks, we feel more confident. It gives us an edge in life, with our career and social lives. As much as possible, people would want to look their best at all times — even if it means going to great lengths to do so — which is why there has been an increase in demand for hair replacement systems and other solutions over time.

But unfortunately, hair loss is more common than you might think — according to some studies, the majority of men and almost half of women will experience some type of hair loss in their lifetime. It affects both men and women, no matter what age, and it is not just about thinning hair or balding scalps; it can also be health problems, medications, stress, and even hormones. It doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do about it.

The first step in overcoming your hair loss problem is understanding the facts behind it. With so many different causes of hair loss, you may feel like drowning in information when you search online on how to fix this dilemma. If this sounds familiar, here are some facts about hair loss to get you started on your journey toward the perfect hair loss solution.

Armed with this knowledge, you’ll be able to cope better with the emotional side of hair loss and focus on addressing the loss of your locks rather than dwelling on it.

Hormonal Hair Loss

For men, testosterone may be the culprit — in particular, certain sex hormones like Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) can cause male-pattern baldness and contribute to hair loss.

Since men are constantly producing testosterone, they are also constantly making DHT, which makes them more likely to lose their hair than women, who do not have a similar genetic disposition for hair loss.

Testosterone is an androgenic hormone that stimulates sebaceous glands on your scalp to produce sebum that keeps your hair shiny and healthy. When you take a medication that blocks or lowers your testosterone levels, you can experience hormonal imbalance that leads to thinning hair on top of your head.

You can prevent it by limiting your intake of certain food products that contain high levels of testosterone, such as soy products. It will cause your hormone levels to return to normal and reduce excessive hair thinning. Another way to combat hormonal hair loss is through vitamin therapy. Vitamin A helps increase collagen production, which keeps skin healthy and elastic, while Vitamin E plays a role in keeping skin healthy by fighting off free radicals that damage cells.

But some women, on the other hand, are still likely to experience stress-related hair loss. In a 2019 survey on beauty among women in Singapore, hair loss was cited as the top concern by 44 percent of respondents.

An example of stress-related hair loss is telogen effluvium which occurs when your body undergoes physical or emotional trauma that throws off your hair growth cycle and shedding. It is a common cause of hair loss in women and occurs when a woman’s body produces more male hormones called androgens.

Overproduction of androgens can lead to excess hair thinning or balding on your head, face, arms, legs, or other body parts. It may also cause facial hair growth and acne. Many women with hormonal hair loss experience receding hairline or increased bald spots that eventually result in total baldness.

You can fix this by talking to your doctor about a hair loss treatment that contains estrogen, like minoxidil or spironolactone. The American Hair Loss Association recommends using these combined with other hair growth products.

Hereditary Hair Loss

Your genes do play a role in how much hair you lose and your ability to keep what’s left. In fact, two people can have opposite patterns of male- or female-pattern hair loss, but if they share similar genetic traits, they may be prone to developing similar symptoms. The best way to learn about your risk for hereditary hair loss is to talk with a professional.

ALOPECIA AREATA. Hereditary hair loss is usually accompanied by other conditions like allergies or autoimmune disorders like alopecia areata. It is an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss in patches and is caused by several things, including stress, nutritional deficiencies, and infections. Till today, there’s no known cure for alopecia areata, so patients must treat their symptoms with topical or systemic treatments to slow hair loss and stimulate new growth.

In addition to medication, many experts recommend stress reduction and improved nutrition to keep alopecia from getting worse over time. While it might not be possible to prevent all cases of alopecia areata, you can take steps to minimize your risk.

Aging Hair Loss

Hair loss correlated with age is completely normal, and you shouldn’t fret about it. As we age, so does our body which brings complications like weak hair follicles that can’t grow as thick or fast as they used to.

Aging can also cause hair shedding and thinning, which makes us look older than we actually are. It is completely natural for men over 50 years old and has nothing to do with your overall health. While it is also common for people to lose between 50 and 100 strands of hair a day naturally, if you notice more than that coming out in your brush, thinning at your temples, or some on your pillowcase each morning, you may have a problem.

Hair loss due to aging is caused by: stress, poor diet, and hormonal changes. As you age, your body produces less of certain hormones that contribute to hair growth. When these hormones fall below a certain level, hair growth slows down or stops completely.

With stress levels, some people can lose up to 100 strands of hair per day due to stress alone. Stress can also cause increased shedding in those who already have thinning hair and even trigger an increase in baldness in those who suffer from it. Poor nutrition can also play a role in triggering an increase in aging hair loss. If you do not get enough protein in your diet, there will not be enough amino acids present to produce new hair cells.

Hair Loss Solutions

Hair loss can be a discouraging problem to face; however, we can help you find solutions that will put your fears to rest. There are several ways to fix hair loss, thinning, or balding. Let’s take a look at three popular options that are affordable and effective. These include medication, laser therapy, and a hair replacement system.

MEDICATION

Minoxidil is an over-the-counter medication available in two forms: liquid or foam. It can help treat male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia). When applied directly to the scalp twice daily, minoxidil increases blood flow in areas where hair follicles are present.

LASER THERAPY

Laser therapy uses low-level lasers to stimulate hair follicles in areas where hair is thinning or has already fallen out. The lasers help promote hair growth by increasing blood flow and cell metabolism on your scalp. But the downside is you’ll need several treatments before seeing results, and it can be expensive — upwards of $1,000 per treatment.

HAIR REPLACEMENT SYSTEM

In recent years, men and women have increasingly turned to hair replacement systems as an affordable alternative to surgery or other invasive procedures. These systems are designed to look like real hair, so they’re ideal for those who want a more natural look like toupees and wigs.

If you’re looking for a quick fix that requires little maintenance, then a hair replacement system may be right for you. Toupees can come in handy for balding spots, thinning hair, and even hair loss caused by scarring from burns or alopecia. It’s completely convenient and looks natural — like your mane from your golden years. The best part is that you don’t need to worry about styling it! Each toupee is made with 100% natural human hair, which looks just like your own hair. If you wish to get such a procedure, hit us up, and we will assist you further.

If you’re concerned about your hair thinning out or disappearing, you may be relieved to learn about hair replacement systems that don’t require surgery or medications. Don’t stress about it and give up hope, because we can treat hair loss and help you stop worrying.
