Frequently Asked Questions

“I” IN iAREMYHAIR STANDS FOR INFORMATION

As part of our commitment to helping you make an informed choice of the best hair loss solution for you, we’ve answered some general Frequently Asked Questions as well as some pertaining to the technical aspect of hair replacement.

General FAQ

Why get a hair replacement instead of hair loss treatment?

Before we answer this question, let’s take a quick look at some of the most common Asian and Western hair loss treatments.

Asian hair loss treatments include Traditional Chinese Medicine (i.e. herbal hair growth stimulants), Yun Nam, Indian henna and other herbs. Western counterparts includes Propecia oral tablets and Rogaine.

Hair loss treatments in general won’t be able to help you avoid hair loss relapses, as hair loss can really only be controlled for a certain period of time. This means that sooner or later, you’ll end up losing your hair just the same.

Western hair loss treatments such as Propecia also have side effects for men (women won’t be able to use these treatments). Treatments such as Rogaine, while both usable by men and women, might also have side effects such as unwanted facial hair for women.

I’m only starting to lose my hair. Should I wait?

No. The more hair you still have, the less chance there is of anyone noticing the change. We can always add more hair, if your baldness progresses. This way you will maintain a balanced appearance while keeping you looking and feeling your best.

Am I psychologically ready?

You are as ready as you’ll ever be. The longer you wait and the more hair you lose, the harder the decision to correct your hair loss will become. The fact that you’re reading this shows you want to improve your appearance. Do it now! Don’t go through the trauma of getting balder.

Isn’t the whole idea unnatural and vain?

Is it vain to cap your teeth or wear contact lenses? No. Today we are open-minded enough to realise and understand that improving our appearance can also improve our well-being and self-esteem. There is nothing wrong with improving your appearance and we’re sure you will look and feel better about yourself.

Why not just go bald? Isn’t it cool to have a skinhead?

Yes, if you’re Caucasian or of African descent, because then you’d be a lot more likely to have a nice, egg-shaped head. You see, most Asians don’t have an egg-shaped head, so most of them tend to look rather odd when going for the skinhead look.

How will I feel?

In a word, fantastic! Not only will you have more hair, but you’ll have hair you can style and hair that will enhance your own natural features. You will look and feel years younger, be full of confidence in personal and professional situations or when just relaxing around the house.

What will people say?

All they can say is that you look great. In most cases, people won’t even realise that you have more hair. They may think you lost weight or perhaps look younger. In any case, if people do notice, they’ll only comment on how good you look.

Is special care required?

No more care than you would have had with your own natural hair. Shampoo and condition when necessary, let dry naturally or blow dry into your favourite style, the choice is yours. Feel free to swim, play sports, entertain or just relax. Whatever your life-style demands, your hair is here to stay.

Is it painful?

No. iAremyhair uses a method that is totally painless and blends with your own existing hair.

Can you tell?

No. Because the hair is 100% natural. You’ve probably walked past hundreds of people who have had their hair restored and you would never know it.

Will your salespeople pressure me?

Absolutely not. We realise that in order for you to be completely satisfied with your hair replacement decision, the choice must be yours, and must not be a result of sales-pressure tactics.

We are simply here to guide you through the decision making process, not to pressure you into making a decision you might regret later on.

Will it look natural?

Yes! The hair replacement industry has made many great advancements in recent years, which have led to more natural-looking hair. However, every person is different and we will discuss the best options for you at your initial consultation. Remember, the best way to find the answers to all of your questions is to give us a call to set up a non-obligatory personal consultation. Call us today at (65) 6225 2022.

Do you help women as well as men?

Yes! We provide separate appointments for both men and women. In fact, we even help children. We can help you deal with hair loss that is a result of many other factors besides male pattern baldness.

Is it confidential?

Confidentiality and discretion are two promises that we keep at iAremyhair. Many men and women have real difficulty in dealing with hair loss. That is not at all uncommon.

When a person first starts to notice significant hair loss, it can be a genuinely unsettling experience. Denial usually follows the initial shock. After early denial, many people move into a period of stoic resignation. These are the usual resultant stages of hair loss.

One thing persists: the painful disappointment that hair loss causes, which is a very personal experience. Each individual has his or her own way of reacting, and we respect everyone’s privacy in this matter.

Allow us to reassure you that when you come to see us at iAremyhair, your consultation will be kept confidential.

How much will this cost?

As each person’s hair loss problems are distinctly different from others, our prices also vary with each individual. Our pricing is true and transparent with absolutely no hidden charges. We also offer you a choice of a monthly, instalment and full payment scheme.

You can wear it continuously up to 7 weeks, depending on various factors, but we recommend periodic visits to the studio for proper care and maintenance.

Is Remy hair real hair?

Remy hair IS human hair! It’s collected from human donors in a manner where the roots are not damaged, and it’s checked for uniformity in cuticles and the direction of growth.

What's the difference between Remy hair and virgin hair?
Virgin hair has never been chemically processed in any way while Remy hair has intact cuticles and naturally aligned strands. Though both are high-quality, the difference is in the cost. Remy hair is considered the finest quality of human hair for hair replacement systems since the cuticles are kept intact unlike most other non-remy hair extensions. … In contrast, Remy human hair is collected through a method in which the hair strands are completely aligned in the natural direction as it grew.

Technical FAQ

How long will my hair replacement piece last?

This depends on your designs. An extremely thin design lasts a month, while on average, our standard designs last from 3-12 months.

Don’t bother with other providers who promise products that last for 3 to 5 years or more—it’s just not true. These supposedly longer lasting products either need to be sent in for repairs again and again, or are so bulky, you wouldn’t want to wear them at all.

Do you have a warranty?

Two months on materials and labor.

Are there any downsides to getting a hair replacement?

Yes, there are a few downsides such as possible skin irritation, which can be avoided with careful maintenance and personal hygiene. Some people might also have an allergic reaction to the tapes and other adhesives used in attaching the hair replacement piece, but this can be worked around by choosing an alternative attachment method.

Some people might also have mixed feelings about having to shave before getting a hair replacement, thinking that their own, natural hair might never grow back. Not to worry—it will grow back.

When I get some grey hairs in my own hair, will you be able to accommodate these changes in my custom-designed hairpiece?

We add grey to match your own hair colour and can expedite the process by using a highly skilled local service.

What’s the difference between your hairpiece and the toupees that some people wear?

Many early hair systems, including some toupees today, are made from bulky materials and use synthetic or low quality hair. Today, modern technology has given us the tools to make a virtually undetectable hair system. It truly looks like hair that’s always been there. Your natural looking hairpiece is semi-permanently bonded to your scalp and can be worn anytime, anywhere, 24/7.

Will I be able to style my hair any way I want?

Absolutely! You can wear it back, part it in the middle or on the side. This is now your hair and behaves just like your own living, growing hair.

How do I care for my hair replacement?

Clean your hairpiece with a mild shampoo (Special Shampoo), use cream type Conditioners (Balsam) that do not contain Lanolin, polymers, or heavy oils. Use leave on spray conditioner also to keep the hair soft and pliable. Use the deep conditioner once per week to prevent dryness and use the Detangler spray to keep the hair from tangling.

Never use any alcohol based styling aids as they will dry the hair. We offer superior formulated products that have been designed for iAremyhair priced at fabulous wholesale prices. You can also shampoo, blow-dry and style your hairpiece at home or while on vacation.

We also provide professional monthly maintenance at our service centres.

What is the best attachment method: tapes, clips, or bonding?

If you want to swim or plan on being in a windy environment, we recommend bonding or the semi-permanent method. You can wear your hairpiece while sleeping, during showers, and while swimming or enjoying your favourite sports. This method requires you to have the hairpiece removed and reattached every 2 or 4 weeks.

What is the French Lace Front?

If you’re just starting to lose your hair and want a natural looking front hairline, this is the way to go.

The French Lace Front features a single hair front knotting with a naturally staggered front hairline. Size may be easily altered.

The lace front itself is a very thin material that is located at the front of the unit from temple to temple and back about 2-3cm or so. The lace front is attached with a special lace tape because the tape offers a tighter hold which doesn’t show through the lace.

Introduced in the past year, the lace front has been described as a breakthrough technology in hairpieces and 50% of our clients order them. It is, however, extremely fragile and needs replacing every 6 months.

You must treat it very gently. You’d also probably need to replace the lace front two or three times before the rest of the piece wears out.

What is the Scallop Front?

This is a thin clear skin-like polyurethane material designed to form semi-circles along the hairline for a more realistic appearance. This type of front is attached using a tape adhesive. You’d probably need to replace the scallop front two or three times before the rest of the piece wears out.
